Couple accidentally paints over $650,000 artwork
A South Korean couple wrongly stained a half-million dollar American art work when they painted over it, as seen in a cringe-worthy clip.
“They thought they were allowed to do that as participatory art and made a mistake,” stated Kang Wook, head of the exhibit at Seoul’s Lotte World Mall, where the unexpected vandalism occurred, Reuters reported.
The harmed 2.5 by 7 metre untitled piece was painted by Paris- based artist JonOne, aka Harlem- born John Andrew Perello, prior to a live audience in 2016– and is valued at a US$ 500,000 (A$ 650,000.
Arranged in front of the abstract opus were the paint cans and brushes utilized in its development. They’re thought about part of the piece, which might have provided the abovementioned set the incorrect impression.
Indeed, CCTV video reveals the unscripted impressionists getting the tools and including their own dashes of paint to the work a la the Joker’s museum makeover in 1989’s Batman. The clip concludes with a close-up of the “reimagined” art work, which now sports 3 awful black splotches.
