Multiple people injured in US shooting
A suspect is dead and least five people, including two police officers, have reportedly been injured following a shooting in New York on Tuesday evening.
Local media reports the incident occurred just after 9pm in Brooklyn at the Kingsborough Houses at Rochester Ave and Dean Street.
Police said a suspect is believed to have shot multiple people at a housing complex before being shot and killed by responding officers, ABC7 reported.
It is understood at least three people have been taken to hospital with undisclosed injuries. Two NYPD officers have also been taken to hospital with minor injuries.
NYPD Chief Terence Monahan said when police arrived on the scene they discovered a man suffering from a gunshot wound.
They then engaged the armed suspect and opened fire on him when he refused to drop his weapon.
A nearby resident, who identified himself only as Champ, told the New York Post that he saw police helping a man who had been shot in the leg.
“Then I got the hell out of dodge,” he said.
Champ told the publication that there was no protests in the area leading up to the shooting and that the incident was “totally isolated”.
More to come.
